Hidale are launching a new product for AgriLIVE which is an affordable and robust EID Sheep Ear Tag Reader. EID is obviously a very hot topic with Defra/Eblex/NSA roadshows happening around the country and the new regulations coming into force at the end of December this year concerning EID tagging of sheep.
The new Tag-ie handset which will be launched at AgriLIVE, has an alpha numeric keypad, 4 line display and an excellent read range, and it should generate a fair bit of interest. The package includes everything a farmer will need including a Bluetooth 2.1 enabled Tag-ie Reader and the Tag-ie software package.
Hidale will be giving demonstrations of the equipment on stand 402, all day long on both days of the show and would welcome any press interest. There will be sheep farmers from Cornwall who have also worked in electronics and hardware and software design for many years to support the farm, and it has been decided to make their own products as they couldn't find anything of a reasonable price which did what they wanted it to do. They are also the only company in the market as far as they know who designs, manufactures and supports their products entirely in the UK. This product is literally designed and made by farmers, tested by farmers and sold and supported by farmers!

NEW CALF TUB AN ALTERNATIVE TO PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES
Feed supplement specialist, Dallas Keith, has introduced Calf Tub Plus -
a molasses-based lick with four botanical ingredients to help prevent the
two prime threats to calf health: diarrhoea and pneumonia.
The herb oregano is included for its proven ability to help reduce the levels of diarrhoea caused by intestinal diseases, and to improve faecal consistency. The formulation also contains aniseed to aid digestion. Eucalyptus and a high level of menthol have been added to help clear the respiratory system and promote easy breathing. The molasses base is a good source of energy, whilst the addition of minerals and trace elements promotes a healthy immune system. Powerful antioxidants are beneficial to animals under stress, so Calf Tub Plus licks have a calming effect on the herd.
“This new, natural formulation provides cattle breeders with an alternative to prescription medicines to help prevent the two main causes of calf deaths and create a healthy herd. We believe that there is a move away from POMs in this area of livestock management and these Calf Tub Plus licks give farmers an alternative remedy that has the extra benefit of no withdrawal period,” explains Chris Willett, Dallas Keith’s Managing Director.
Dallas Keith’s Calf Tub Plus licks are designed to be fed ad-lib and supplied in 10kg plastic buckets - an ideal size for use in small pens. They are available nationwide from agricultural merchants.
BAYER ANIMAL HEALTH
New single-dose product launched for prevention of coccidiosis in lambs
Sheep farmers can now prevent coccidiosis in lambs and protect liveweight gains using a single dose of Baycox Sheep, a new coccidiocide launched by Bayer Animal Health which has been shown to be highly effective in killing the coccidial parasite and reducing the disease challenge to the flock.
Coccidiosis in lambs typically occurs at 4-6 weeks of age although it can be seen earlier or later as well. It is caused by Eimeria, coccidial parasites which rapidly multiply inside the gut of the animal, causing damage to the gut lining. This results in signs such as diarrhoea, fever, abdominal pain (giving lambs a hunched up look) or general unthriftiness and poor weight gain.
Baycox Sheep is a ready-to-use oral suspension that is administered as a single oral dose. It kills coccidia in both the small and large intestine of the lamb, and significantly reduces the number of oocysts excreted, so reducing the disease pressure. Baycox Sheep is available on veterinary prescription, in 250ml and 1000ml bottles. For more information on preventing coccidiosis at both clinical and sub-clinical levels, contact your vet, and come and see us on stand stand 17 in hall 1.
